Summary
Through the activities in this lesson, hopefully you are feeling comfortable with the “mechanics” of how the course will work and your focus can be more on the content of the course and exchanging thoughts with team members. There are many reasons, for many different people and agencies, to have public education. Understanding why we have schools in America is essential to understanding how they run and operate, which we will spend the rest of the semester learning about. You have also started building your “foundation” of education by understanding what the purposes of education are and that our current system is held accountable to meet a large number of different needs and expectations. As we proceed into the next lesson, hopefully, you will observe how the purposes of education changed as we, as a country, developed our education system into what it is today.
