Lesson 1 - Purposes of Education
Objectives
Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively within the online format for Foundations of American Education (email, discussion boards, etc.).
- Identify the perceived purposes of schools in the United States in the 21st century.
Overview
This course may be your first experience with online education. In this lesson, our main purpose is to help you understand how the course will work and help you resolve any technological issues now so that frustration may be minimized as you work through the other lessons. This lesson will also help you to analyze the purposes of education. What a country, a school board, parents, and/or students perceive the purposes of education are, strongly influences how personal and systemic decisions are made.
Activities
To meet these objectives students will:
- Complete the Introductory Survey/Social Contract Acceptance
- Register for Access to Free Resources for Current Educational Issues
- Engage in the "About You" Discussion
- Explore Purposes of Education
- Engage in the Reasons for Education Discussion
